We completed a full deck resurfacing project for two backyard decks in Austin, Texas, replacing worn-out wood decking with new Trex composite decking. The original deck boards had reached the end of their service life — they were weathered, cracked, and beginning to rot in several areas. The homeowner wanted a durable, low-maintenance upgrade, and Trex was the perfect solution.
Before starting, we performed a full inspection of the existing structure. While the old wood decking was heavily worn and showed damage from years of exposure, the underlying framing was still structurally sound. That allowed us to complete a resurfacing project instead of a full rebuild — saving the homeowner significant cost while still delivering a completely new deck surface.
The first step was removing the old wood deck boards, along with fasteners and outdated hardware. Once the surface was cleared, we carefully inspected the framing, cleaned the structure, and prepared it for the new installation. We reinforced several joists, adjusted spacing where needed for composite decking, installed joist protection tape, and re-leveled sections of the frame to create a flat, solid foundation.
After the structure was properly prepared, we installed new Trex composite decking using a clean, modern layout with hidden fasteners for a smooth finished look. We also installed matching composite fascia boards around the perimeter to give both decks a clean, fully finished appearance.
